‘Babi Guling’ week for Aru’s 2nd Birthday
12 – 17 June
Mac Forbes x Aru Wine Lunch
Sunday 25 June
Back when ARU first opened, we had ‘babi guling’ on the menu. Our take on the famed Balinese rotisserie suckling pig.
It was a labour of (chef) love and battle with the ducks for dry-aging space (the ducks won). Despite being a hit, we had to take it off the menu, offering it only as a private dining special order item.
But we’re bringing it back for our birthday.
For our birthday week, babi guling will be returning to our dinner menus. Crisp, crackling, tender roasted pork belly, finished over our woodfire, and served with three kinds of native sambals, fresh herbs and lettuce.
No pre-orders. Simply book a table, come in and ask for it.
12 – 17 JUNE
Dinner service only
Limited quantities available – $80 / serve (perfect for two)
As part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival’s Drink Victorian month, we’ll be holding an intimate and relaxed wine lunch with Mac Forbes on Sunday 25th June.
Mac is one of the shining talents of the Australian artisanal winemaking world, with a focus on terroir and single vineyard Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet from the Yarra Valley.
He will be taking you through his wines over lunch – from 2022 releases to side-by-side tastings of his 2011 and 2021 Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
Paired with a menu showcasing ARU’s highlights – plush Chardonnays with barramundi and elegant Pinot Noirs with the dry-aged duck, this is an event not to be missed.

The private dining room opens up onto The Terrace with a wall dedicated to wines, concealed behind a mesh curtain that separates it from the dining room. Seating 30, this area can be booked in addition to our private dining room.
Named after the group of islands which ancient seafarers frequented as part of the Sino-Indonesian-Australian route, Aru touches on early techniques – fermentation, smoking, curing, preserving and fire-licked meat, vegetables and fish.
This is a menu for getting together, for sharing, a coming together of cultures and cuisines centred round a wood-fired hearth.
Open for lunch and dinner, six days a week, and on Sunday for Sunday lunch.
